Free will astrology"'Free Will Astrology" is the title given to a weekly syndicated astrology column written by self-styled astrologer Rob Brezsny. Brezsny has been providing advice to the masses for more than 21 years now. His column is a mixture of folklore, history, biography, humor and literature among other subject, and he manages to pull the whole thing together according the astrological sun sign of the reader. Twenty one years ago in Santa Cruz, Brezsny was looking in the local "Good Times" weekly newspaper classified section for a used bicycle and noticed an ad for "Astrologer Wanted". He answered the ad, was hired and the rest, as they say, is history. His weekly column currently appears in over 120 publications, and is translated into German, French and Spanish. His weekly column "Free Will Astrology" 'messages reach over 9 million readers in hard-copy; Short text message horoscopes are delivered daily to faithful subscribers, and expanded audio horoscopes are delivered weekly to those willing to pay the $6.00 per reading price. Reduced prices are available for longer term commitments. The seer admits to having read a book or two about astrologer during the course of his score of years of predictions, musings and mutterings. It is interesting reading, if only for the gleam of humor, and the glint of wry skepticism in every opinion he offers, even his own. The astrologer/author/musician has now produced his third book, which it entitled '"Pronoia". The term Pronoia is the antidote for "Paranoia" according to the author. His belief is that the world is conspiring to shower you with blessings, and he's not shy about relating anecdotal evidence to back up his claim. For all the positive optimism displayed in the title of the book, when Brezsny was asked in a recent interview whether things were generally getting better, or whether events were in a downward spiral to destruction, Brezsny's one word answer was "Both". This may be the secret of his popularity with readers. He presents the same type of generalized statements as do Zolar and other widely read syndicated astrologists, but Brezsny manages to sound as if he is spoofing himself even as he writes. And yet, he ties in some fairly obscure references to literature and the classics that he turns nicely into a polished bit of advice for each astrological sign. Part of the zest for living for this Free Will Astrology author is his skill at turning things inside out. For example, at least once annually, he has a reverse panhandling day, during which he hands out $5.00 bill to lucky motorists from spot beside the freeway while holding a sign which says. "I need to give. Please take some money".
